Soccer Star Cristo Fernández Has a Tequila for When Your Team Scores

Tequila CAZADORES and Cristo Fernández built El Golazo, a jalapeño-pineapple reposado cocktail for fútbol’s biggest moments. Recipe below.

The best cocktails have a reason to exist beyond the glass. El Golazo, built around Tequila CAZADORES Reposado, fresh jalapeño, pineapple juice, and lime, was co-created with Cristo Fernández, a Guadalajara-born professional fútbol player, to capture a specific emotional state: the three seconds after a spectacular goal when the entire room loses its composure simultaneously. The drink earns it.

Tequila CAZADORES, the highlands Jalisco brand now in its second century, is launching Carded by Cristo this summer — reimagines football’s yellow and red card as a taxonomy of fan identity. Personality quiz, limited-edition bottle jersey, surprise in-person appearances by Cristo, and a cocktail designed to be mixed at home during the match. The infrastructure is more considered than most spirits brand activations get.

The Drink First

El Golazo is built on CAZADORES Reposado, aged in American oak, which gives the agave base a light vanilla and toasted wood character without obscuring the highland brightness. Reposado was the correct choice here.

Blanco would have been too sharp against the jalapeño heat; añejo too slow.

Reposado sits at the right register: present enough to anchor the drink, relaxed enough to let the pineapple and citrus work.

Three thin slices of fresh jalapeño muddled into the shake deliver measured heat — not a challenge, not decorative. The pineapple juice (two ounces) pulls the spice forward and rounds it against the agave nectar’s sweetness. Fresh lime juice cuts back through both. The salted rim is structural, not aesthetic: it suppresses bitterness and sharpens the fruit.

The result is punchy, celebratory, and calibrated for volume production. You can make six of these during halftime without losing the thread. That is not an accident.

El Golazo — Full Recipe

  • 2 oz. Tequila CAZADORES Reposado
  • ¾ oz. agave nectar
  • ¾ oz. fresh lime juice
  • 3 thin slices fresh jalapeño
  • 2 oz. pineapple juice
  • Salted rim, dried pineapple slice and lime wheel to garnish

Combine all ingredients, shake, serve on the rocks in a 12 oz. margarita glass with salted rim.

The Cristo Factor

Cristo Fernández is a Guadalajara native returning to professional fútbol with El Paso Locomotive FC this summer after a career that has taken him considerably further than most players from his city get. He is also, in case the name rings a bell from a different context, the kind of public figure whose endorsement carries cultural credibility rather than just social reach — the distinction that separates a partnership from a placement.

“This journey has been a reminder that even the craziest dreams are worth chasing,”

Cristo Fernández

“This campaign is for them” — meaning the fans. The sentiment is genuine enough that it does not require unpacking. He is from there. He plays the sport. The brand is from the same highlands.

This is the second consecutive summer for the CAZADORES-Cristo partnership, which matters because repeat engagements in spirits signal that the first one worked commercially, not just aesthetically.

The Real Fan Cards

The campaign’s interactive component — a personality quiz at Cazadores.com/us/en/realfancards/ ; assigns visitors one of several fan archetypes: the superstitious diehard, the self-appointed coach, the one leading chants before kickoff.

Each archetype carries a corresponding cocktail pairing. The mechanic is well-constructed for sharing. People forward their results. That is the point.

The limited-edition fútbol bottle jersey; a replica of streetwear Cristo co-designed last season — will be available while supplies last in select markets alongside a bottle of CAZADORES Reposado. If you want the jersey bottle, move early.

Well-built cocktail with a clear identity and a legitimate story

The El Golazo is a well-built cocktail with a clear identity and a legitimate origin story. The Carded by Cristo campaign is smarter than most spirits brand activations get in a World Cup summer, which tends to produce a great deal of generic fútbol content and very little worth actually reading. This is worth your attention, and the drink is worth making.
