Los Angeles Must-Visit Cocktail Bars this Fall

The holiday season is fast approaching and while many of Los Angeles’ favorite cocktail spots remain closed, that doesn’t mean thirsty citizens will have to spend Autumn sober.

Whether you’re a tequila-lover, a whiskey enthusiast or need vodka to keep you warm, here are our top picks for tasting your way around the city this season.

Edendale

The patio of this former fire station turned bistro-like hot spot is perfect for fall festivities in the era of COVID. They also off the ‘at-home’ option, where you can order a bottled cocktail of up to 64 ounces — that’s about 16 average bar pours – for pickup or delivery.

Lowboy

In its inaugural year, this Echo Park cocktail bar and its front patio have made a name for themselves as a neighborhood favorite. Lowboy and its stretch of Sunset Boulevard is buzzing most nights.

Perch

Towering 16 floors above downtown Los Angeles, this French restaurant and bar delivers artful cocktails alongside its impressively-endowed list of bubbles. If you haven’t put on decent clothes since the beginning of quarantine, this may be your gateway back into the real world.

The Red Lion Tavern

One of LA’s most prominent providers of German food. Their great patio, long drink list, and social distancing procedures make for a perfect fall happy hour spot (12-6pm Monday through Friday).

Los Angeles’ Best Holiday Pies in 2020

As the holidays approach (just weeks way), it’s pie time. Many LA restaurants have resumed outdoor dining service. SO we took the chance to visit and taste some of Southern California’s best.

The Apple Pan

The Apple Pan’s coveted pies are made with a shortening-laced crust. The banana cream has easily earned all of its accolades. Everything from the strawberry, apple, cherry, and seasonal offerings are worth try trip. Open for takeout and delivery.

Jones Hollywood

West Hollywood’s Jones makes an incredible apple pie. Historically during the “dine-in days”, each slice was served on a hot cast-iron platter with a perfectly-placed ice cream scoop of vanilla. These days, the pie is still available, but for takeout and delivery only.

Southern Girl Desserts

This Baldwin Hills sweet shop specializes in down-home pies, including heavenly versions of sweet potato and pecan pies. Open for takeout and delivery.

Valerie Echo Park

Valerie Gordon’s sweet bites are always popular, but her holiday pies have become the talk of legend. Pumpkin pie, apple-salted caramel, pear-cranberry are available for pick-up or local Los Angeles delivery on the Tuesday and Wednesday before Thanksgiving.

No matter which flavors you desire or where you are in our city, there are incredible options to enjoy.

Champagne Sales Sparkle in Los Angeles as Biden Annc’s Presidential Victory

Los Angeles is celebrating!

Local Southern California wine shops soar with sparkling wine sales over the past several days after the Saturday morning news that Joe Biden had officially become the next president-elect.

The city-wide party meant more wine and plenty of sparkling wine!

Vinovore in Silver Lake

Locals took over the street with dancing through Sunset Junction, honking horns and blasting music.

The store’s management remarked Election Week was really more for stress drinking, while the weekend was for celebration.

Silverlake Wine

People danced in front of their Glendale Boulevard store. Management had to call their distributor and order more champagne immediately as they started to sell-out.

San Antonio Winery in Lincoln Heights

Sales increased more than 50% as Stella Rosa sparkling wine was in high demand.

Halloween: Joe Bob Briggs Haunted Drive-In brings thrills and chills to Southern California

This October, Joe Bob Briggs is bringing immersive Halloween scares to the drive-in!

A brand-new Halloween haunt experience:

Joe Bob’s Haunted Drive-In

blends a film festival of horror short films with a live zombie invasion. As drive-in expert/horror host Joe Bob Briggs and his friends appear on screen to present the films, real zombies will take over the drive-in, interacting with the crowd and on-screen entertainment to create a scary, fun, and immersive night unlike any other!

THE EXPERIENCE

Not much ever happens in the small town of Shock City. But when you find out your favorite horror host Joe Bob Briggs is bringing his film festival of some of the world’s best horror shorts to your local drive-in, you’re in.

You pick up your best friends and arrive to the warm neon glow of the Shock City Drive-In sign. The atmosphere is electric. Even the local DJ at K-SHOCK Radio is playing classic Halloween music to get you in the mood. Although the folks at the entrance are a little strange, you find your favorite spot in the theater and settle in with your popcorn.

The trailers for upcoming horror films are amazing, then Joe Bob and his co-hosts Darcy the Mail Girl and Felissa Rose hilariously burst onto the screen from the drive-in’s projection booth to present the films they selected to play. The films are awesome, but as the night goes on, you get an uneasy feeling. People keep stopping and staring at your car for a little too long. You see others mysteriously running. Soon enough, a pair of teens disrupt Joe Bob in the projection booth to say that some crazy rabid dude just turned their entire nearby Halloween party into zombies…and now they’re heading for the drive-in and hungry for flesh.

Since nothing will stop Joe Bob from putting on his festival, you roll up the windows and brave the invasion of zombies that you may not survive!

THE FILM FESTIVAL

They received over 900 submissions from 50 different countries and are selecting only the creepiest and wildest entries for the audience to sink their teeth into!

Expect to see some craziness you’ve never quite seen before!

RIP Eddie Van Halen: explosive guitar-playing defined a music generation

Eddie Van Halen, whose innovative and explosive guitar-playing kept his hard rock band  Van Halen at the top of the album charts for two decades, died Tuesday morning after a long battle with cancer. He was 65.

Van Halen’s son Wolf announced the news:

“He was the best father I could ever ask for.

Every moment I’ve shared with him on and off stage was a gift.

My heart is broken and I don’t think I’ll ever fully recover from this loss,”

Wolf Van Halen tweeted.

Born in the Netherlands and raised in Pasadena, Calif., Eddie founded Van Halen with his older brother, drummer Alex; the siblings were joined by singer David Lee Roth and bassist Michael Anthony, exploding after rocking gigs at such West Hollywood’s Gazzarri’s and the Starwood.

It was instantly apparent on Van Halen’s self-titled 1978 debut album, that Eddie Van Halen was an instrumentalist to be reckoned with.

In Rolling Stone’s 2015 poll of the 100 greatest guitarists — in which Van Halen placed eighth, between Duane Allman and Chuck Berry — Mike McCready of Pearl Jam wrote, “It sounded like it came from another planet… [I]t was glorious, like hearing Mozart for the first time.”

The group’s first LP, “Van Halen,” though it climbed to only No. 19 in the U.S., would ultimately be certified for sales of 10 million copies.

Its next five multi-platinum albums all reached the top 10; “1984,” released in its titular year, contained the band’s first and only No. 1 single, the synthesizer-driven “Jump,” and sifted another 10 million units.

Ongoing conflict between the guitarist and their front man Roth led the singer to split with the act after its wildly successful 1984 tour.

Van Halen found even greater sales after ex-Montrose vocalist Sammy Hagar replaced Roth. Between 1986 and 1995, the group released four consecutive No. 1 albums.

Eddie Van Halen was dogged by personal and health concerns that would intermittently interfere with his work in music over the course of the next decade.

The onset of cancer — likely the result of heavy smoking — led to the surgical removal of part of his tongue in 2000.

Eddie Van Halen is survived by his second wife, the band’s former publicist Janie Liszewski, whom he married in 2009, and his son.

Joe Wehinger has Your Business’s Plan to stay busy this Holiday Season

Typically winter is the slowest season for service professionals.  Families are adjusting their budgets towards the holidays and gift-giving.

Traditionally, many service companies try to solve this by paying to get more listings on service directories, like homeadvisor, next door, and others.

But United Digital & Associates’ founder Joe Wehinger has better ideas for you.

His ideas deliver the results your business needs not only to survive slow times, but to thrive at any time.

“Personally, I am not a fan of these companies that try to bury me in the google search results…

…and then I have to pay even more for additional leads that I would have already gotten directly.  So, no.  I don’t rely on service directories.”

Joe Wehinger’s company helps businesses with their marketing and sales, so he relies on the same strategies for his own company that he uses so successfully for others.

“I have a 3-step strategy that works incredibly well and

brings results on demand.”

The three steps are:

  • The T9 Launch targets your ideal audience and gets them excited
  • The Sales Machine gets them lined up and ready to buy
  • The Insta-Horizon creates trust and loyalty.

And it works like magic.  Except this is very real.

“A few weeks ago a Beverly Hills business owner called my cell.  He was in disbelief.  We just launched the Insta-Horizon for him.  He had a meeting with a prospect a few days earlier and the prospect called right back after seeing the business’s messaging everywhere.  That one call paid for his entire campaign expense.  He happily renewed immediately.”

Wehinger uses those same social media marketing and digital marketing tactics to drive a solid stream of new customers throughout the spring and summer and continues all year long, especially through the fall and winter.

“My strategy finds your ideal customers, helps them discover your business and then organically encourages them to become a loyal customer.”

While all the other service-based companies often find themselves fighting over a handful of the same cold leads, the United Digital strategy has hot leads calling businesses directly.

Wehinger laughs:

“For sure, I grab our leads before they even get to Google.”

Your company may not have a plan for keeping your calendar booked during the upcoming slow season, but you need to.  The right digital marketing campaign can not only save your business quickly), but creates on-going results to create a drive for months and years in the future.

Last chance before it gets too cold! Our fave Los Angeles Dine Outside spots

On May 29, LA restaurants were allowed once again to reopen for dine-in service. But…

One month (and one giant COVID spike) later, they were shut down yet again.

Outdoor dining, however, remains an option, and LA weather let’s the outdoors be friendly more than most.  But it’s about to be that chilly time of the year.

Social Distancing at Bar Covell

So, we wanted to highlight some of our faves before it gets too cold to enjoy.

Bar Covell (Los Feliz)

A Los Feliz tradition, Bar Covell has converted into a sidewalk wine bar, serving their tremendous list of wines by the bottle or glass (although they’ve paused their sample policy). You can also expect cheese, charcuterie plates, tuna melts, and snacks.

Connie & Ted’s (West Hollywood)

New England seafood shack Connie & Ted’s has reopened, and their huge patio on Santa Monica in Weho is the ideal spot to indulge on all the shellfish you desire away from home. Their seafood is fresh and top tier. Go ahead and enjoy the New England seafood boil, with mussels, steamers, lobster, linguica, and corn on the cob.

Ocean Prime (Beverly Hills)

Upscale eatery Ocean Prime has reopened their expansive Beverly Hills patio locale with a variety of steakhouse classics, plus a few items you might not expect (like sushi). Make a reservation online.

BOA Steakhouse (Santa Monica)

Hot spot steakhouse BOA is at the cross of Ocean and Santa Monica in one of the busiest neighborhoods on the Westside. They’ve got sidewalk seating so you can eat all the lobster tails and ribeyes that your wallet can handle.  Reservations recommended.
