Royale Eats Davon Moseley reveals the secret behind his tastiest homemade meals

Davon Moseley is the creator behind Royale Eats, the website and social influencer who shares his favorite recipes and assists others in cooking for themselves & their families.

Joe Winger:

What is the most important message you have for our audience today?

Davon Moseley:

I’ll say the most important message for me is just to have confidence in yourself when you’re in the kitchen be able to understand that food. It’s a lot that ties into it.  When it comes to nourishing your body, nourishing others.

I feel like the main thing that I’ve learned is just throughout this whole journey is it’s okay if you make a dish and it doesn’t work out right the first time, just keep at it and that’s what makes you a good cook.

Joe Winger:

How did you get so comfortable in the kitchen?

Davon Moseley:

Practice.  A whole lot of practice.

I definitely want to say everything I made [did not] come out right on the first try, sometimes it takes a try or two or three, when it just comes to making good food.

I feel that when you’re able to make dishes, you’re able to get a feel for “Okay, I did this last time.  This is how that turned out. I liked this part of it, but something else I want to do differently.”

Just being relaxed and having fun when you’re cooking, really enjoying the process.

Joe Winger:

You’re very well known on social media with millions of followers. What got you interested in home cooking way back in the beginning?

Davon Moseley:

My family, I come from a family of extraordinary cooks.

People see what I do, but I give my hat off to my family. They just showed me there’s more to food than just eating for yourself or giving out a dish.  Just the aspect of being able to bring people together. I saw that as the main component of it.

Then me just being a naturally creative person. I didn’t really think [of it as me] being a content creator. In the whole aspect of that, I just really love being creative, and I feel like being able to express that through food and, just having the platform at the time, with social media and that’s how I was able to post food and it gained a lot of traction and a lot of support early on.

Joe Winger:

You’ve partnered with some amazing food brands. Can you share a life lesson you learned by getting these opportunities?

Davon Moseley:

I’ve been blessed and fortunate enough to work with many different brands.

It’s so many at this point that I can’t think of every single last one of them off the top of my head.

Someone else saw something in me, “Hey, if you work with us, we really feel like you’ll be a great contribution to what we do. And, we see you as a representative for us.”

I feel like that’s what’s meant the most to me.

It’s truly a blessing.

I just love to inspire people to get into the kitchen, just trying something that you may not be the most comfortable with.

For me, myself, I’m not really that comfortable being on camera. That’s why for the longest time, when I would first do my videos, it was just like my hands. Like being on social media, it gets scary at times, just being in front of millions upon millions of people, especially as you grow .

But I understood that in order for myself to grow, I had to get comfortable being uncomfortable.

You have to believe in yourself and trust that you might not get it today. But basically, you’re going to get it as long as you keep trying.

Joe Winger:

Your kitchen content is beautiful. How do you make it look so good?

Davon Moseley:

It’s been an extreme process. Recently I went back and looked at some of my older videos and I cringed so hard.

The quality of it, the camera I was using, I’ve gone through multiple different [versions]. Cameras from originally being on my phone to getting a professional grade camera to trying to learn different lenses, different editing platforms.  It has been a journey.

I see a ton of great creators that are online. I build up the courage [to reach out] saying, Hey, I don’t know this person, they don’t know me, but I really want to know how did they get the quality that they have. So I’ll shoot them a message.

Some people reply back, some people don’t.

I’m the type of person if I want to find something [out], I’m going to find it, just being able to ask and doing research on my own.

Joe Winger:

Do you have a favorite meal pairing?

Davon Moseley:

When it comes to pairings, I’m not the biggest expert.  I do enjoy a good Cabernet Sauvignon with a steak.  Then for white wine, Sauvignon Blanc with a good pasta dish, eating some charcuterie.

Joe Winger:

Can you talk about how you built your audience?

Davon Moseley:

My supporters [are] the best. They truly are.  I’ve had plenty of moments where I’ve thought about just stopping because it was tough trying to break into the content world.

There are so many people online.  There are so many different communities.

I always remain authentic to myself, but I didn’t know what it was that was making people want to support me.

But early on, I just had a ton of support.  You see a negative comment here and there, but my supporters are with me so that if negativity does come, I don’t have to respond to it.  They respond to it for me. That’s how strong we are.

I think they could feel that energy through the camera.

[They say] “I made your dish and my family loved it.” […] their kids love it. And that’s the biggest thing for me when people tell me their kids love the food. I know it’s good because people can say anything, but kids are the hardest critics. So if a kid says the food is good, that’s my biggest stamp of approval when they tell me like their kids love the dish.

Joe Winger:

Is there a specific recipe in your cookbook that you’re just really proud of or that’s really popular that we should be trying tonight?

Davon Moseley:

The sausage fajita pasta, that’ll be the biggest one.

Whatever your experience is as a cook, I feel like anyone can make that dish. I’ve had people tell me that’s a dish they’ve made just trying to learn how to cook.  They got it spot on, as soon as they made it.  Now it’s in rotation for their family meal.

Joe Winger:

Can you tease us with some of the ideas of what 2025 looks like for you?

Davon Moseley:

Expect to see a lot more of me. Being able to be in person, get to meet me. Me being able to explain that journey.
