Dried fruit, dark chocolate: Angel’s Envy’s 2026 Cask Strength Release Is Its Most Ambitious Yet

Angel’s Envy drops its 2026 Cask Strength Dual Release on April 17;  a Solera-built bourbon at 117.8 proof and a first-ever 10-year age-stated rye. Here’s what to know.

Angel’s Envy has built its reputation on what happens after the barrel. While most distilleries treat finishing as a flourish, Angel’s Envy treats it as the point; and the 2026 Cask Strength Dual Release is the clearest expression yet of how far that philosophy can go.

Two bottles, two processes, one release date: April 17, 2026.

The Bourbon: A Solera in Motion

The 2026 Cask Strength Bourbon arrives at 117.8 proof and carries something most annual releases can’t claim — genuine continuity with what came before it. Angel’s Envy uses a Solera-inspired process for this expression, meaning each year’s release is built on a foundation that includes whiskey from prior releases. Nothing resets. The liquid accumulates history.

This year’s bourbon blends Angel’s Envy’s oldest Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey before heading into Ruby Port barrels for an extended finishing period of up to three years. That’s a long time to spend in a port cask, and the results are measurable.

On the nose, expect the deep dried fruit and dark chocolate notes that Ruby Port finishing reliably pulls from mature bourbon — but at 117.8 proof, there’s a structural intensity underneath that keeps the sweetness from dominating. The finish on cask strength expressions at this proof tends to be long and warming, with the port influence showing up as something closer to baking spice than straight sugar. This is a sipping whiskey that rewards patience; add a few drops of water and the mid-palate opens considerably.

“Since each release builds on the one before it,

we’re able to create a bourbon with real depth and continuity; something that evolves rather than resets,”

Owen Martin

Angel’s Envy Master Distiller

“The extended finishing in Ruby Port barrels enhances both structure and richness, resulting in a bold, layered expression that’s powerful, polished, and distinctly Angel’s Envy.”

Approximately 20,640 bottles will be available in the U.S., with an additional 1,446 released internationally. SRP is $249.99 per 750ml.

The Rye: Ten Years, Two Barrels, One Milestone

The second release is the one that marks new ground. Angel’s Envy introduced a Cask Strength Rye in 2023, but the 2026 expression is something different: the brand’s first age-stated rye at cask strength, and the statement is a significant one.

The whiskey starts as Straight Rye distilled in 2013 and 2015, aged in new charred American oak, then finished in Caribbean rum casks for up to four years — a combined total of at least ten years in wood before it reaches the bottle. It’s bottled at 111.6 proof.

Rye finished in rum casks is a less common combination than bourbon in port, and the interaction is worth understanding. The rye’s natural spice — that characteristic black pepper and dried herb quality of high-rye mash bills — doesn’t disappear in rum finishing.

It gets layered. Caribbean rum casks carry residual sugars and tropical fruit notes that soften the rye’s edges without dulling them, producing something with more texture and sweetness than an unfinished rye at this age would typically show. At 111.6 proof, it sits at a point where the alcohol is present but integrated — warm rather than hot.

Ten years is a long time to wait for a rye whiskey. Longer still if you’ve been asking for it since 2023.

“Since launching our first Cask Strength Rye in 2023, we’ve consistently heard from consumers eager for its return,” Martin said. “With the 10-Year Cask Strength Rye, we wanted to take that enthusiasm further by introducing an age statement. This whiskey wasn’t made to meet a deadline; it was made to exceed expectations.”

This one is the scarcer of the two: approximately 10,800 bottles, available exclusively in the U.S. SRP is $269.99 per 750ml.

What to Know Before April 17

Both expressions are presented in premium box packaging designed specifically for each release, available beginning April 17, 2026. Given the bottle counts — 20,640 for the bourbon, 10,800 for the rye — neither will be easy to find once the initial allocation moves through retail. Angel’s Envy’s annual Cask Strength releases have a track record of selling through quickly among collectors and serious whiskey drinkers.

FAQ

What is the Angel’s Envy Solera-inspired process? Unlike a standard annual release where each batch starts fresh, Angel’s Envy’s Solera-inspired Cask Strength Bourbon builds on prior releases — meaning whiskey from previous years carries forward into the current expression. The result is a bourbon with layered continuity rather than a clean reset each year. The 2026 release blends the brand’s oldest Kentucky Straight Bourbon before an extended finish of up to three years in Ruby Port barrels.

What makes the 10-Year Cask Strength Rye significant? It’s Angel’s Envy’s first age-stated rye whiskey bottled at cask strength. The whiskey was distilled in 2013 and 2015, aged in new charred American oak, then finished in Caribbean rum casks for up to four years — reaching a combined minimum of ten years in wood. With only approximately 10,800 bottles available exclusively in the U.S., it’s also the more limited of the two 2026 Cask Strength releases.

When and where can I buy the 2026 Angel’s Envy Cask Strength releases? Both the Cask Strength Bourbon ($249.99) and the 10-Year Cask Strength Rye ($269.99) are available beginning April 17, 2026, at select retailers nationwide. Visit angelsenvy.com for a retailer locator and additional details.
