Travel: Revealing Virgin Atlantic’s Mystery Seating Economy Classic vs. Economy Delight

It’s so frustrating that every airline has its own nicknames for Basic Economy tickets, but when those seats appear in search results, they don’t clearly explain what they come with. How is anyone supposed to know what “Economy Delight” is supposed to mean? Here’s what Virgin Atlantic’s categories are, and what they buy you.

Economy Light—the most basic

• You get free meals, drinks and snacks.
• You can only bring a carry-on! If you want to check a bag, you have to pay extra.
• You may not select your seat until check in. Hope you like middle seats!
• If you want upgrade using miles, you can’t. You’re stuck in Economy.

Economy Classic—what an Economy ticket used to buy you

• You get free meals, drinks and snacks.
• You get one free checked bag, but it can be no heavier than 23 kg/ 50 pounds. (Additional checked bags will cost you.)
• You may select your seat anytime—starting when you buy your ticket.

• If you want upgrade using miles, you may.

Economy Delight—a little more space and a little more time

• You get free meals, drinks and snacks.
• You get one free checked bag, but it can be no heavier than 23 kg/ 50 pounds.
• You may select your seat anytime—starting when you buy your ticket.
• If you want upgrade using miles, you may.
• Your seat will have about three inches of extra legroom compared to most Economy seats—still not as nice as Premium, though.
• You can use the premium check in line
• You’re called to board sooner than everyone else in Economy. This is helpful if you have a carry-on you simply must stow overhead, such as something breakable—you’ll get to the bins first.
