America turns 250. The shows are bigger, the crowds will be thicker, and in at least a few places, the fireworks have been replaced by something you’ve never seen before. Whether you’re planting a chair on the sand in Dana Point or staking out a row at the Hollywood Bowl before the Beach Boys hit the stage, this year will be full of memories.

Here’s where to go.

Hollywood Bowl — The Beach Boys, The LA Phil, and Fireworks

The Beach Boys headline the Hollywood Bowl’s July Fourth Fireworks Spectacular on July 2, 3, and 4, with Thomas Wilkins conducting the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra. The run also marks the 60th anniversary of Pet Sounds and celebrates America’s 250th birthday. Special guest John Stamos joins the band. Gates open at 5:30 p.m.; show starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets required.

Rose Bowl, Pasadena — Drones Replace a 100-Year Tradition

The Rose Bowl has eliminated its fireworks show for July 4th, a tradition that had run in Pasadena for nearly 100 years, citing air pollution and environmental impact.

In its place: 750 synchronized drones forming patriotic patterns at approximately 9 p.m., visible only to stadium attendees. The show was designed by Pyro Spectaculars, the same company behind Dodger Stadium and Macy’s July 4th fireworks displays. The Rose Bowl will also host the FoodieLand Food Festival over the holiday weekend, featuring over 200 food vendors plus games, entertainment, and family-friendly activities. Tickets required for both drone show and FoodieLand.

The fireworks are gone. The food trucks are still coming. Pasadena will survive.

Tickets (Eventbrite, online only): Official FoodieLand site

Tickets are $12 per single-day entry, sold online only. No tickets at the door. Children 5 and under free.
