Matthew McConaughey’s journey into the world of tequila began with a serendipitous encounter in 2006 when he met his future wife, Camila Alves, at a club. Sporting a beard, a Rasta hat, and flip-flops, Matthew was coaching the bartender on crafting the perfect margarita. Camila, intrigued by his laid-back demeanor and footwear choice, decided to stay a bit longer at the bar. Their connection over those margaritas, conversing in Portuguese and Spanish, marked the beginning of their relationship.
This shared appreciation for tequila and the fun it brings eventually inspired the couple to launch Pantalones Organic Tequila in the fall of 2023. They aimed to create a premium, 100% Blue Weber Agave organic tequila that embodies a lighthearted spirit, countering the often serious tone of the industry. The brand’s name, “Pantalones,” translates to “pants” in Spanish and colloquially signifies “guts,” reflecting their ethos of embracing fun and not taking things too seriously.
