Feast with ‘Spread The Love’ April 26: Guest Chef Elia Aboumrad & Chef Sammy Mounsour, Special Dinner Series Benefitting Miry’s List at Spread Mediterranean Kitchen

Spread Mediterranean Kitchen introduces Spread The Love Dinner Series featuring Guest Chef Elia Aboumrad and Chef Sammy Monsour alongside New Arrivals Supper Club Chefs Maysaa and Abdul Kanjo at Spread Mediterraean Kitchen on Friday, April 26th, 2019 starting at 8:00 pm!

Spread Mediterranean Kitchen Owners Chef Brandon Parker and Dan Coury are partnering with Chef Elia Aboumrad of Hotel Normandie and Guest Chef Sammy Monsour of Preux and Proper who will also cook alongside Chefs Maysaa and Abdul Kanjo of the New Arrivals Supper Club to create a family-style, Middle Eastern dinner to support Miry’s List, a charity dedicated to supporting new refugee families resettling in California. The New Arrivals Supper Club seeks to support newly resettled refugee families by fostering opportunities to generate income, participate in their new communities, and share their culture through the intimacy of sharing a meal. 100% of the proceeds from the Spread The Love Dinner Series will directly benefit Miry’s List.

The New Arrivals Supper Club Chefs Maysaa and Abdul Kanjo are originally from Homs, Syria. Maysaa and Abdul along with their five children fled Syria to Jordan in 2012 to escape the violence plaguing their city and country. In Jordan they registered as refugees with UNHCR and eventually they arrived in the United States on August 10th, 2016. Abdul owned a thriving salon in Syria, but also came from a long line of bakers. His family had a bakery in Homs for over 100 years. Maysaa’s specialties includeFattoush, a mouthwatering Syrian salad, as well as Maqloube, a Syrian staple. This dish includes meat, rice, and fried vegetables placed in a pot, which is then flipped upside down when served, hence the name maqluba, which, in Arabic, translates literally as “upside-down.” Maysaa and Abdul Kanjo are thrilled to be able to share their story and native cuisine with their new friends in America at this dinner.

Chef Sammy Monsour and Chef Elia Aboumrad have united to celebrate the cultural diversity of the United States with a meal that represents the melting pot culture exemplified in the modern American dining experience. This Spread The Love Dinner serves as a partnership between the two chefs to honor their ancestral roots in the Mediterranean region alongside two native Syrian chefs.

Elizabeth Delphin loves a good time! A fun concert, a good dinner out with friends, those weird artsy-fartsy festivals. If she's not at the office or at home, she's likely walking her dog Milo at Runyon Canyon (seriously, sometimes she goes 2-3 times a day).
