Inside Tesla’s New Diner & Drive-In: LA’s First Retro-Futuristic Supercharger Experience

Tesla’s Diner and Drive-In Theater Redefines Charging with Food, Film, and Futurism.

Tesla’s first-ever retro-futuristic diner and drive-in theater opens its doors in Hollywood, delivering more than just a meal—it’s a full-blown “entertainment center.”

Located at 7001 Santa Monica Boulevard, the venue is the first of its kind, combining a Supercharger station with a two-story diner, dual LED movie screens, and rooftop seating. While the burgers, milkshakes, and roller-skate nostalgia recall the golden age of Americana, its touchscreen-enabled ordering system and V4 Superchargers scream future-forward. Whether you’re pulling up in a Model Y or just curious to peek inside Elon Musk’s latest vision, here’s what to expect from Tesla’s bold new lifestyle experiment.

A Supercharged Vision: Where Grease Meets The Jetsons

Conceived by Elon Musk back in 2018 as a hybrid of “Grease meets The Jetsons,” the Tesla Diner officially opens at 4:20 p.m. Monday—a wink to Tesla’s irreverent brand culture.

Construction on the site began in late 2023, and now the 1950s-style eatery fused with cutting-edge tech is finally here. The diner and drive-in combo is housed in a two-level space designed by architectural firm Stantec.

It boasts:

  • A 3,800-square-foot enclosed kitchen and dining area

  • A 5,500-square-foot rooftop with bar and table seating

  • Two 45-foot LED movie screens, visible from parked Tesla vehicles

  • 32 V4 Supercharger stalls, with plans to expand to 75

Chef Eric Greenspan, known for his elevated comfort food, heads up the kitchen, dishing out classic American fare like burgers, fries, and shakes, with more upscale twists expected.

Think “diner food, done Tesla-style.”

Charge. Watch. Eat. Repeat.

The Tesla diner isn’t just a pit stop—it’s a destination. Vehicles can order directly through their Tesla center screen for full Sonic-style carhop service. While walk-ins are welcome, only Tesla vehicles can access the in-car ordering and movie-sync features.

The two LED movie screens will play 30-minute short features, designed to align with average Supercharging sessions. Future plans may include theater-style seating for non-drivers, though rooftop diners can already catch the show while enjoying their meals.

“Team did great work making it one of the coolest spots in LA!”

Inside the Space: Neon Nights and Smart Tech

From its neon signage to its chrome-accented bar, the Tesla Diner leans hard into mid-century nostalgia—but beneath the surface, it’s all smart tech. The facility is being described as a prototype for a new generation of deluxe Tesla Supercharging stations.

While operating hours have not yet been announced, the diner and charging lot are expected to run well into the night, taking advantage of LA’s car-centric culture and warm climate. The experience aligns with Tesla’s goal to make charging more enjoyable—not a chore, but a lifestyle enhancement.

What This Means for Tesla (And the Rest of Us)

Musk’s larger vision, if this experiment succeeds, is to roll out similar entertainment Superchargers in major cities around the world. Expect to see these popping up in places like Miami, Berlin, Hong Kong, New York, and San Francisco, combining high-end design with functional charging and social space.

In a post on X, Musk described the goal as “an island of good food, good vibes, and entertainment, all while Supercharging.”

If successful, the Tesla diner could redefine the rest stop as we know it—not just a pause in your journey, but a highlight.

Worth a Visit—Even Without a Tesla?

Technically, yes—you don’t need to drive a Tesla to grab a burger at the diner. But only Tesla owners can take full advantage of the tech-enhanced features like screen-sync movies and touchscreen ordering. For locals and tourists alike, though, the Hollywood location makes it a new landmark worth visiting.
