{"id":27406,"date":"2023-08-31T07:46:56","date_gmt":"2023-08-31T14:46:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dailyovation.com\/?p=27406"},"modified":"2023-08-31T20:40:45","modified_gmt":"2023-09-01T03:40:45","slug":"80th-venice-international-film-festival-roman-polanskis-the-palace-sells-major-europe-territories-just-before-venice-premiere","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dailyovation.com\/2023\/08\/31\/80th-venice-international-film-festival-roman-polanskis-the-palace-sells-major-europe-territories-just-before-venice-premiere\/","title":{"rendered":"80th Venice International Film Festival : Roman Polanski\u2019s \u2018The Palace\u2019 Sells Major Europe Territories Just Before Venice Premiere"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Roman Polanski\u2019s \u2018The Palace\u2019 Sells Major\u00a0 Europe Territories Just Before Venice Premiere<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Roman Polanski<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2019s newest film \u201c<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Palace\u201d <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0sells to major territories just before its <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Venice<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> premiere, with distributors lining up to show the film despite\u00a0 the filmmaker\u2019s ongoing controversy..\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Deals have been struck with Benelux (Paradiso Films), Spain (V\u00e9rtigo Films), Germany (Weltkino), Greece (Spentzos) and Portugal (Nos Lusomondo) in Western Europe.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Eastern and Central European distributors have also signed the film with sales to Bulgaria (Beta Film), Yugoslavia (MCF), Hungary (Cirko), the Czech Republic and Slovakia (Pilot Films) and CIS (Pro:vzglyad).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In Italy \u201cThe Palace\u201d <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">will be launched theatrically on September 28 by 01 Distribution. Its parent Rai Cinema is a key partner on the production alongside lead producer Luca Barbareschi.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lausanne-based CAB Productions, which is also a producer, has Swiss rights. Tomasz Przybecki is handling Polish rights in a deal brokered by Barbareschi.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The deals arrive even as on-going debate continues whether the filmmaker Polanski should be endorsed or not as an artist since his 1973 US criminal charges remain unresolved.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Polanski, who is now 90 years old, is not expected in Venice for the Out of Competition gala Sala Grande premiere on September 2.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Key territories still not spoke for include Polanski\u2019s homeland France.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Polanski wrote the screenplay with Polish director Jerzy Skolimowski and producer Ewa Piaskowska.
