Max von Sydow<\/strong>, the mountainous, sorrow-faced actor whose name became forever-connected with Ingmar Bergman films, has died. He was 90.<\/p>\n Von Sydow, who became Bergman\u2019s symbol for the modern man<\/strong> in such films as \u201cThe Passion of Anna\u201d and \u201cShame\u201d after making his Bergman debut as the errant knight in \u201cThe Seventh Seal,\u201d also had an unusually prolific career in Hollywood and international films.<\/p>\n Advertisement<\/em><\/p>\n <\/a><\/p>\n He made his American debut in the role of Jesus Christ in George Stevens\u2019 turgid 1965 epic \u201cThe Greatest Story Ever Told\u201d and went on to make strong impressions with audiences in \u201cThe Exorcist,\u201d Woody Allen\u2019s \u201cHannah and Her Sisters,\u201d David Lynch\u2019s \u201cDune,\u201d \u201cThree Days of the Condor,\u201d \u201cHawaii,\u201d \u201cConan the Barbarian\u201d and \u201cAwakenings.\u201d<\/p>\n Most recently, the actor starred in \u201cGame of Thrones\u201d as the Three-Eyed Raven. He also appeared in \u201cKursk: The Last Mission\u201d (2018) and \u201cLego Star Wars: The Force Awakens\u201d (2017). In 2014 he was cast in J.J. Abrams\u2019 continuation of the \u201cStar Wars\u201d saga, \u201cEpisode VII \u2014 The Force Awakens\u201d as Lor San Tekka.<\/p>\n He was the central figure in William Friedkin\u2019s 1973 blockbuster \u201cThe Exorcist\u201d and would reprise the role of Father Merrin in \u201cExorcist II: The Heretic,\u201d directed by John Boorman in 1977.<\/p>\n
