Founded in 1982 by\u00a0<strong><span class=\"xn-person\">Bob Lindquist<\/span><\/strong>, Qup\u00e9 is internationally recognized for cool-climate, high-scoring <strong>Rh\u00f4ne varietals on\u00a0<span class=\"xn-location\">California&#8217;s<\/span>\u00a0Central Coast<\/strong>; notably <strong>Syrah<\/strong>, <strong>Grenache<\/strong>, <strong>Roussanne<\/strong> and <strong>Marsanne<\/strong>. The name Qup\u00e9 (kyoo-pay) is taken from the Chumash word for poppy\u2014the\u00a0<span class=\"xn-location\">California<\/span>\u00a0state flower which blankets the landscape each spring.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We share Bob&#8217;s passion for Syrah and other Rh\u00f4ne varieties and his commitment to quality and sustainability,&#8221; stated\u00a0<strong><span class=\"xn-person\">Pat Roney<\/span><\/strong>, <strong>Chief Executive Officer of Vintage Wine Estates<\/strong>. &#8220;We are looking forward to honoring that legacy.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The purchase includes the brand and inventory. Lindquist will stay on in a consulting winemaker role, using traditional techniques such as barrel fermentation, manual punch-downs and French oak aging. Sourcing from Central Coast vineyards includes\u00a0<strong><span class=\"xn-location\">French Camp<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0(<span class=\"xn-location\">Paso Robles<\/span>), <strong>Bien Nacido<\/strong> (<span class=\"xn-location\">Santa Maria<\/span>),\u00a0<strong><span class=\"xn-person\">Sawyer Lindquist<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0(Demeter Certified Biodynamic;\u00a0<span class=\"xn-person\">Edna Valley<\/span>) and\u00a0<strong><span class=\"xn-person\">Ibarra-Young Vineyard<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0(farmed organically;\u00a0<span class=\"xn-location\">Santa Ynez<\/span>) and is expected to continue.\u00a0 The wine tasting room in the village of\u00a0<span class=\"xn-location\">Arroyo Grande<\/span>\u00a0will remain open to welcome wine club members and other visitors to the region.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailyovation.com\/2018\/11\/05\/vintage-wine-estates-announces-purchase-qupe\/screen-shot-2018-11-05-at-4-09-21-pm\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-14719\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-14719\" src=\"https:\/\/dailyovation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Screen-Shot-2018-11-05-at-4.09.21-PM.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"685\" height=\"502\" \/><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Vintage Wine Estates remains committed to an aggressive growth strategy focusing on legacy estates and brands from top American Viticultural Areas (<span class=\"xn-location\">Washington<\/span>,\u00a0<span class=\"xn-location\">Oregon<\/span>,\u00a0<span class=\"xn-location\">Napa<\/span>,\u00a0<span class=\"xn-location\">Sonoma<\/span>\u00a0and California Central Coast).
