The\u00a0West Coast Cub Fly-In<\/b>\u00a0is excited to announce their 34th<\/sup>\u00a0annual fly-in at the Lompoc Airport scheduled for\u00a0July 13-15<\/span>, 2018.\u00a0 The fly-in has become one of the best attended and longest running Piper Cub fly-ins in the nation, with over 100 of the WWII-era planes expected to attend this year.<\/p>\n

Lompoc’s<\/span>\u00a0West Coast Cub Fly-In is a popular event enjoyed by pilots and spectators alike – visitors are welcome to the event free of charge.\u00a0 The fly-in also provides a great opportunity for photographers to capture photos of the many vintage aircraft. Kids enjoy the event as well, and the fly-in helps to encourage the next generation of pilots.<\/p>\n

Visitors will have the opportunity to walk among the aircraft, interact with pilots, observe the flying events, and enjoy the various activities.\u00a0 T-shirts, souvenirs, food and refreshments will be available for purchase.<\/p>\n

Pilots typically arrive on Thursday, as the event officially begins on Friday.\u00a0 The fly-in kicks into high gear on\u00a0Saturday July 14th<\/span>\u00a0with pilot proficiency games along with other fun activities, plus a tri-tip dinner and awards ceremony in the evening.<\/p>\n

In addition to observing the historic planes in action, attendees are also able to get up-close views of the aircraft on the ground and interact with the pilots, many of whom will be attending from out of state.\u00a0 Many aircraft depart for home the following morning (Sunday) after breakfast.<\/p>\n

About of the Piper Cub: The most popular is the Piper J-3 Cub – a small, simple, light aircraft built between 1937 and 1947 by Piper Aircraft.\u00a0 With tandem (fore and aft) seating, it was intended for flight training but became one of the most popular and best-known light aircraft of all time.<\/p>\n

Cubs served in wartime as artillery spotters and as air ambulances, but are best known as trainers for the thousands of student pilots who learned to fly from the late 1930s through the 1950s. Today, Cubs are cherished classic aircraft from aviation’s Golden Age.<\/p>\n

This year marks the 34th<\/sup>\u00a0anniversary of the West Coast Cub Fly-In, which was started by\u00a0Monty Findley<\/span>and\u00a0Bruce Fall<\/span>\u00a0– two Lompoc Piper Cub owners. Both Bruce and Monty are gone now, but all the loyal volunteers who work each year to see that each fly-in is better than the year before will carry on in their honor.<\/p>\n

Lompoc<\/span>, located in beautiful northern\u00a0Santa Barbara County<\/span>\u00a0on the Central Coast of\u00a0California<\/span>, is a great destination enjoyed by the many visiting Cub pilots.\u00a0 Whether you fly-in or drive-in, consider attending this year’s event!<\/p>\n
