With this collaboration, Universal will fund the restorations as well as provide research and technical services.<\/p>\n<p>Through The Film Foundation,\u00a0<span class=\"xn-person\">Martin Scorsese<\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0<span class=\"xn-person\">Steven Spielberg<\/span>\u00a0will be personally involved in the process contributing their unique artistic expertise and historical knowledge throughout the restoration process.\u00a0 The restored versions will be screened at film festivals and archives around the world. The 2018 restoration slate includes the following:<\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li><i>DESTRY RIDES AGAIN (1939, d.\u00a0<span class=\"xn-person\">George Marshall<\/span>)<\/i><\/li>\n<li><i>KILLERS, THE (1946, d.\u00a0<span class=\"xn-person\">Robert Siodmak<\/span>)<\/i><\/li>\n<li><i>KILLERS, THE (1964, d.\u00a0<span class=\"xn-person\">Don Siegel<\/span>)<\/i><\/li>\n<li><i>MY LITTLE CHICKADEE (1940, d.\u00a0<span class=\"xn-person\">Edward Cline<\/span>)<\/i><\/li>\n<li><i>WINCHESTER &#8217;73 (1950, d.\u00a0<span class=\"xn-person\">Anthony Mann<\/span>)<\/i><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Additional titles will be announced in the coming months.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em><b>&#8220;<\/b>I&#8217;m\u00a0so excited by this partnership with Universal and the chance to continue what we started with the restoration\u00a0of ONE-EYED JACKS,&#8221; said\u00a0<span class=\"xn-person\">Martin Scorsese<\/span>. &#8220;Steven and I grew up with these pictures. Neither of us can wait to get to work on WINCHESTER &#8217;73,\u00a0the first of\u00a0<span class=\"xn-person\">Anthony Mann&#8217;s<\/span>\u00a0eight pictures with\u00a0<span class=\"xn-person\">James Stewart<\/span>, and on both versions of Hemingway&#8217;s THE KILLERS: two different pictures from two different eras, both of them classics. And there&#8217;s so much more to choose from in the Universal library. The focus and scope of this project will result <\/em>in valuable<em> contributions to the preservation of our film history.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;We are very happy to deepen our long relationship with\u00a0<span class=\"xn-person\">Martin Scorsese<\/span>,\u00a0<span class=\"xn-person\">Steven Spielberg<\/span>\u00a0<\/em>and<em> The Film Foundation,&#8221; said\u00a0<span class=\"xn-person\">Michael Daruty<\/span>, Senior Vice President, Global Media Operations Management for NBCUniversal.\u00a0 &#8220;These films represent some of the landmark titles in Universal&#8217;s rich history and library.&#8221;\u00a0 \u00a0<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This restoration partnership marks another step in Universal&#8217;s film restoration initiative announced during the company&#8217;s Centennial in 2012.\u00a0 More than 70 titles have been fully restored including:<\/p>\n<p><i>All Quiet on the Western Front<\/i>,<i>\u00a0The Birds<\/i>,<i>\u00a0Buck Privates<\/i>,<i>\u00a0Dracula (1931)<\/i>,<i>\u00a0Dr\u00e1cula Spanish (1931)<\/i>,<i>Frankenstein<\/i>,\u00a0<i>Jaws<\/i>,<i>\u00a0Schindler&#8217;s List<\/i>,<i>\u00a0Out of\u00a0<span class=\"xn-location\">Africa<\/span><\/i>,<i>\u00a0Pillow Talk<\/i>,<i>\u00a0Bride of Frankenstein<\/i>,<i>\u00a0The Sting, To Kill a Mockingbird, Touch of Evil, Double Indemnity, High Plains Drifter, Holiday Inn, Spartacus, King of Jazz, Cleopatra (1934), Duck Soup,\u00a0<\/i>and\u00a0<i>One-Eyed Jacks<\/i>. In 2015, Universal launched their silent film initiative.<\/p>\n<p>Since then, the company has restored 15 titles such as<i>\u00a0Outside the Law, Sensation Seekers, The Last Warning, Straight Shooting,\u00a0<\/i>and<i>\u00a0The Man Who Laughs.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>The Film Foundation is a nonprofit organization established in 1990 dedicated to protecting and preserving motion picture history. By working in partnership with archives and studios, the foundation has helped to restore over 800 films, which are made accessible to the public through programming\u00a0at festivals, museums, and educational institutions around the world.<\/p>\n<p>The Film Foundation&#8217;s World Cinema Project has restored 31 films from 21 different countries representing the rich diversity of world cinema. The foundation&#8217;s free educational curriculum,\u00a0<i>The Story of Movies<\/i>, teaches young people &#8211; over 10 million to date &#8211; about film language and history.<\/p>\n<p>Universal Pictures is a unit of NBCUniversal, one of the world&#8217;s leading media and entertainment companies in the development, production, and marketing of entertainment, news, and information to a global audience.
