New Year, New You, Right?!
It’s so easy for me to get caught up in making all these grandiose changes that will happen at the stroke of midnight on NYE. Only to find my will coming to a horrific crash by the time 2 pm hits on Jan 2nd. I don’t even aim that high. I usually just go for the basics. You know, eat better, exercise more, and lose weight. This year, I’m taking a different approach. I am going to up my beauty game. From the inside out. We all should.
My goal in 2018 is to make some beautifying changes that last more than 2 days and that will transcend me into a healthier, more vibrant, pampered, and beautiful ME.
Beauty is internal as much as it’s external. To me, internal beauty maintenance includes diet, mental acuity and the ability to focus and remain calm but also soul wise. How do you feed your soul? What makes you happy? Is it music, doing a facial mask, dancing, or taking Selfies? Whatever the heck it is, it should make you feel good.
Truthfully, I can be a little tightly coiled at times and my anxiety can go from Namaste to turbo at the drop of a Dior compact. So I realized I needed a little help navigating my way during an unbelievably stressful day. After having a long talk with an amazing integrative herbalist and CEO, Amy Mckelvey of Her Vital Way. She suggested I try L-Theanine. She explained that L-Theanine is an amino acid found in green tea leaves that promotes relaxation without the drowsiness. So, I can be calm, cool, collected, awake, feeling and looking gorgeous? Sign Me Up!
I’m really picky about taking any supplements and my criterion is that it definitely has to be non-GMO, no creepy gelatin, all natural ingredients, and definitely mind-altering free (the last thing this world needs is for me to break out all my Pink Floyd albums again). And most importantly, something that would alleviate stress but keep me focused and doesn’t make me fall asleep mid-day.
Now, normally I’m skeptical taking anything that DOESN’T get me high. I’m kidding, but wouldn’t that be awesome?
So with an open mind, I decided to really give it a try, hallucination free.
What I found is that I was able to handle things that would normally make me go into a tizzy with absolute ease. Flat tire? Hacked e-mail? Mascara won’t stop clumping? Bring it on! I’m as calm as a cucumber.
In fact, I’ve already recommended it to a few of my friends who struggle with anxiety from time to time and they’ve ended up calling me a couple weeks later, almost leaving me their entire inheritance because they felt so serene. If that’s not a stellar endorsement, I don’t know what is. You just have to check it out for yourself.
In addition to the L-Theanine, there are several other supplements on the site that you can take that promote healthy eyesight, healthy heart and joint functions and antioxidant support. They are all reasonably priced so you can get healthier on the inside without going broke on the outside.
My point is beauty is an inside job. Even if you look hot on the outside if you treat your insides like crap, or don’t know how to deal with stress efficiently, inevitably you’re going to look like shit. You may look awesome for that Selfie but what happens after that? We don’t get to pick out an app filter in LIFE. We just have to live it. And hopefully, we can approach it with a calm and grace even if our president is tweeting crazy AF things on the daily. Sweet Jesus.
I also decided in 2018 that I’m going to take more time to pamper myself. Even if it’s just once a week, taking a few extra minutes for ME will help me reboot when I need to. Now, It doesn’t have to be an expensive massage at a 5-star spa or even a much-needed trip to Bora Bora. It can be on a lower scale with the same impact.
One thing I love to do to pamper myself is taking baths. Even a half hour out of my hectic day to soak in a warm tubby can really give me a much-needed attitude adjustment. It makes me feel super luxurious even though my bathtub barely fits me and I’m only 4”11. I just make it work, people. My go-to for “Jeremy’s REALLY Mini Spa Day” is bath bombs from Lush. Not to brag, but I will anyway, I’ve been featured in their catalog that’s how much I love this place. My all-time favorite is the Butterball. You gotta try it. Dude. Wow. You just plop this little sphere of love in your bathtub and it’s like a silky robe of moisturizing cocoa butter has effortlessly draped you. The deliciously decadent vanilla scent leaves your skin smelling amazing and so incredibly soft. The bonus is, they only cost $4.95. That’s a small price to pay for the enormous bliss you attain.
And let’s say that you can’t muster up the energy to make even one small beauty resolution this year. Do me one favor? At least get a new lipstick. Go for it. Try a bright color you normally wouldn’t wear. If your staple is usually nudes, maybe pick up a bold coral color to brighten you up during these colder months. If you normally go for a matte red, try a glossy hot pink. Experiment. Have fun with it. I was just in Chicago and Tx where it was snowing. So, I emblazoned my piehole with this gorgeous color. It’s a vibrant coral pink and adds a little bit of color to a drab winter day. And as my mom always says, “just put on a little lipstick and everything will be ok.” So even if you’re life is in shambles at the moment, it doesn’t really matter because you look amazing. Smooches!
These are just a few of the beauty resolutions I’m going to take in 2018. I can’t predict what 2018 holds, but what I can predict is my skin is going to be hella soft, I’m going to be relaxxxxxxed, yet focused and my lips will be brilliant and ready to take on this new year.
