ILLUMINATE Chardonnay Earns Gold Medal At 2015 San Francisco Int’l Wine Competition
ILLUMINATE 2013 Chardonnay by Mendocino-based, Kimmel Vineyards made a statement when the recently launched wine which sells at under $10 retail per bottle, snapped up the Gold Medal at this year’s revered The San Francisco International Wine Competition.
“It is possible to create a fantastic Chardonnay without charging the earth for it,” says Jim Kimmel, Partner at Kimmel Vineyards.
“It’s a matter of choice: do I want to charge what I can, or do I want to charge what I should?,” he explains. “ILLUMINATE was created to introduce the $10 price-point consumer to a better level of wine, and hopefully we have accomplished that.”
The San Francisco International Wine Competition would seem to agree. As the largest and one of the most influential international wine competitions in America, it is renowned for its prestigious panel of nationally recognized wine experts. Judging is based on a blind, consensual procedure, ensuring competitive integrity as it remains one of the nation’s most respected wine competitions. In 2015, the competition is celebrating its 35th year.
