26-year-old Brit Andrew Garfield is taking over Tobey Maguire‘s role as the sticky-fingered web crawler in the new Spider-Man for director Marc Webb‘s 3D relaunch of Sony Picture Entertainment’s most lucrative film franchise.
After months of speculation and rumors he beat out other top contenders: Jamie Bell, Anton Yelchin, Aaron Johnson, Logan Lerman, Alden Ehrenreich, Frank Dillane, and Michael Angarano.
Garfield‘s big break was being cast in the upcoming The Social Network (impressively directed by David Fincher and written by Aaron Sorkin) about the Facebook founders. His other credits includes Boy A, The Other Boleyn Girl, Terry Gilliam‘s The Imaginarium Of Dr Parnassus and The Red Riding Trilogy.
